J.J. Abrams to the Rescue! Will Direct 'Star Wars: Episode IX'

After it was confirmed on September 5 that Colin Trevorrow was stepping down as the film director for the upcoming 2019 Star Wars: Episode IX film and Star Wars fans and Lucasfilm alike were left hanging waiting for a new director, J.J. Abrams has come to the rescue!

Lucasfilm officially confirmed on early September 12 that J.J. Abrams will be "returning to complete the sequel trilogy as writer and director of Star Wars: Episode IX." And just like that, Star Wars fans sigh a big relief, as the majorly expected upcoming production had been left without an official director for a week.

The decision to cast J.J. Abrams as the director of the ninth Star Wars film comes after Colin Trevorrow, who was announced as the director of the film in August 2015, decided to step down as the director and mutually part ways with Lucasfilm due to creative differences concerning the Star Wars film. Trevorrow has directed various great films, including Jurassic World (2015) and Safety Not Guaranteed (2012), and I for one am looking forward to what more amazing work he creates!

Though Trevorrow's stepping down as director may have been disappointing to fans, it ultimately was for the best, and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy is certainly excited about J.J. Abrams taking the role as director of Star Wars: Episode IX, saying in a statement

With The Force Awakens, J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy.

J.J. Abrams will be co-writing the film with Chris Terrio, and the film will be produced by Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, and Abrams himself and through his own production company Bad Robot.

Now that J.J. Abrams is officially back at the helm as a Star Wars film director, there are plenty of reasons to be excited for him to return as a director.

While Star Wars is known for having a different director for each film in their franchise, Abrams returning as a Star Wars film director (he previously directed Star Wars: The Force Awakens which was released in late 2015) should be something we should be excited for and a valid exemption from Star Wars' typical decision concerning directing.

Not only did Abrams deliver a powerful revival of the much beloved Star Wars franchise with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which received both universal critical and audience appraisal, including a 92% approval on Rotten Tomatoes, but J.J. Abrams is a big Star Wars fan himself.

Since Abrams saw the first Star Wars film when he was just 11 years-old, Abrams became a big fan of the franchise and has been open about his big love and appreciation for the Star Wars universe, and it is for that respect that he has for the franchise that we should feel excited about the treatment that he will give the film, as obvious by his handling of the seventh film. Lastly, it's important to look at Abrams' other various works, including Cloverfield, Super 8, and deep involvement in the Star Trek franchise (such as Star Trek Into Darkness), most which have been met with universal critical acclaim and fan following. Considering all of these factors, I am very much OKAY with all-capital letters for J.J. Abrams taking up the role as director of the ninth Star Wars film.

Lucasfilm
The to-be directed J.J. Abrams Star Wars: Episode IX film is expected to be released on May 24, 2019.

Now that that question surrounding who will direct the ninth Star Wars film has been answered and our minds can rest, I have another question for you: what do you think about J.J. Abrams directing Episode IX? Are you as excited and OKAY in all-capital letters as I am? Please do let me know...whether you are from a galaxy far far away or from wherever.

Sincerely, Dora Goto

It's Not All Bad News for "Futurama" Fans, Thanks To Show's So-Developer David X. Cohen

JamCity If you are a big fan of Futurama like myself and were saddened by the news that Netflix was removing episodes from the cult-classic futuristic cartoon, then the show's co-developer David X. Cohen has come to the rescue! Recently it's been seen on Netlflix that various seasons of Futurama have been removed (only seasons 6 and 7 remain, which are divided into 2 parts and listed on Netflix as seasons 7 to 10), and naturally Futurama fans took to social media to express their discontent...most utilizing the show's own memes to do so. Before we go any further, I need to get this out of my system: ...There.  (I didn't mean for all the Futurama memes to be just of Professor Farnsworth, it just happened.)  But it's not all "bad news, everyone!" (Get it?!? Okay, I'll get back to the topic...) During a recent  Reddit AMA , the show's creator Matt Groening and head writer David X. Cohen, along with principal voice actor...

Having Breakfast at Tiffany's is NOW OFFICIALLY a Reality

Paramount Pictures If you're a big Aubrey Hepburn fan or simply a fan of good films from the 1960's like Breakfast at Tiffany's , then you'll probably be giddy as I to find out that an actual café store has opened at the fourth floor of the iconic Tiffany & Co. store located in Fifth Avenue in New York City. The café store is called Blue Box Café (rambling a little bit here so you have time to write it down, okay that's enough), officially opened its doors today, and according to a  review by Vogue  of the café's opening, it offers a $29 breakfast menu option that includes coffee and croissant with the "choice of an avocado toast, truffled eggs, or a smoked salmon bagel with schmear." But Blue Box Café will not only offer breakfast options (* very delicious breakfast options ), as  the  Vogue  review  noted that the cafe also offers lunch options at $39 (which include a starter and main course), including the "Charles Lewis Tiffany"...

Four Days After "The Addams Family" Hit Theaters, A Sequel Has Already Been Confirmed

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures Hear that? It's the sound of my mind being blown...or that of me snapping along to the Addams Family theme song. Following the commercial success of this year's animated re-imagining of one of our favorite unconventional families,  The Addams Family , which was released on theaters October 11, Deadline  exclusively confirmed on Tuesday that an animated kooky and spooky sequel is already in the works. In just its opening weekend, The Addams Family has earned $30.3 million from its theatrical releases in the United States and Canada (a little bit more than three-quarters of its $40 million budget), surpassing box office predictions and showing that millions of moviegoers are still interested in catching up with what Gomez Addams and his family are doing once again. In doing so,  The Addams Family also became the second highest grossing film in the domestic box office this weekend, following Joker which earned $55.9 million. While it...
