Oh My Disney |
According to an exclusive report by The Hollywood Reporter, the 2002 Walt Disney Feature Animation film Lilo & Stitch, which was co-directed and written by Dean DeBlois and Chris Sanders, will be joining a growing list of animated Disney films being recreated as live-action films, including successful live-action adaptations like The Jungle Book, Maleficent, and Beauty and the Beast.
The Lilo & Stitch remake will be a live-action and CG hybrid, and it will be produced by Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback, a production company previously known as Lin Pictures. Lin Pictures has successfully brought to life films like The Lego Movie, It (2017), and Sherlock Holmes (2009) starring Robert Downey Jr. Ryan Halprin from Rideback will also be co-producing.
The Lilo & Stitch live-action film will not be Lin's and Eirich's first collaboration with Disney, as they are also currently serving as producers for the upcoming live-action Aladdin, which is directed by Guy Ritchie and will come out in theaters May 24, 2019.
Screenwriter Mike Van Waes, who has written The Crooked Man and Not in Kansas and are expected upcoming horror film projects, has been brought to write the script for the film.
Van Waes has already voiced his excitement for being part of the live-action Disney production:
Not much is currently known about the Disney film as it's still being developed, including casting and whether the live-action Lilo & Stitch remake will be released on theaters or be part of Disney's upcoming streaming service, Disney Play, like the live-action remake of The Lady and the Tramp that Disney is currently producing. A Peter Pan and The Sword in the Stone live-action remakes are also in development and will be released on Disney Play, which is set to launch in 2019.Lilo and Stitch have been my favorite Disney characters since they first hit the screen in 2002, so being a part of this project is pretty damn exciting! #liloandstitch https://t.co/eVyoxG1cuf— Mike Van Waes (@mikevanwaes) October 3, 2018
Lots of Disney news and films being developed, not enough hands to write about all of them!
How do you feel about what's known so far about the live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch? Are you optimistic about it and looking forward to experiencing the live-action remake with your ohana?
Do let me know and share, because life is about sharing - and re-watching and living Disney films, of course.
Sincerely, Dora Goto
