Warner Bros. announced on Friday that Christopher Nolan's next film is scheduled to be released on July 17, 2020 in IMAX. While Warner Bros. didn't disclose what the film will exactly be about, Nolan's upcoming secretive project was described as an "event film."
Nothing currently being know about what Nolan's next film will be about and who will star in it isn't rare, as the critically acclaimed film director is known for being secretive about the film projects that he has worked on. It also isn't rare that Nolan will be releasing his upcoming 2020 film in IMAX, as the director has shot multiple of his films' sequences in IMAX and admitted to Collider in 2010 to "love the format dearly", so we can certainly except great things like his previous films Interstellar and Dunkirk.
Nolan's mysterious Warner Bros. event film will be his first since his 2017 film Dunkirk, which won 3 well-deserved Academy Awards for Best Film Editing, Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing, as well as 5 nominations including Nolan's first Best Director nomination. Nolan's upcoming film will also become his 11th film, and will be following tradition of many of his previous films of being released in July, including The Dark Knight, Inception, The Dark Knight Rises and Dunkirk. Interstellar was his most recent exception to being released in July, as it was released on November in 2014.
Nolan has ten films under his belt that have been released theatrically (so far), and they have proven to be powerful ones, evident by the well-deserved critical acclaim they have received (earning a total of 34 Academy Award and BAFTA Award nominations) and how, accumulated, they have grossed a total of $4.7 billion worldwide just in box office. Nolan's latest film, Dunkirk, has become the highest-grossing World War II film of all time, earning $526 million globally.
Although currently not much is known about Christopher Nolan's film, any film news is good news, especially about film projects being directed by respected directors like Nolan. I don't know about you, but the thought of Christopher Nolan being behind an IMAX film camera is already pretty exciting, and am looking forward to being amazed.
2020 already looks pretty great - 70 mm film quality great, that is!
Sincerely, Dora Goto, who wants Christopher Nolan to direct her life in IMAX
