Seth Rogen and the Lonely Island are STILL Making a Fyre Festival-Like Film

Lester Cohen/WireImage
Don't worry, Seth Rogen and the Lonely Island haven't forgotten.

In late April 2017, as the Fyre Festival incident was unfolding - an event that was announced as a "luxury musical" experience that ultimately led to multiple lawsuits - actor Seth Rogen tweeted that he and musical trio the Lonely Island were, coincidentally, making a film "about a music festival that goes HORRIBLY WRONG."

The Lonely Island, composed of Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer, responded to Rogen's tweet, humorously suggesting to sue the Fyre Festival "for stealing our idea."

And that was 2017, that and a few cat memes here and there.

It's been almost two years and the plans haven't changed: Seth Rogen and the Lonely Island trio are still working on a festival disaster film.

Jorma Taccone, actor, director, and one third of the Lonely Island, recently sat down to talk with The Daily Beast to talk about his current projects, including TBS' Miracle Workers, trying to pitch a MacGruber TV series (crossing our fingers for him), and to confirm that the Fyre Festival-like parody film was still very much happening.

"I don't want to divulge all the details but we're figuring it out right now. You've seen the [Fyre Festival] docs, right? It's crazy. This is something that Akiva [Schaffer] and Seth [Rogen] cooked up, and we're figuring it all out right now."

It's understandable that production for the Fyre Festival-like parody film is still in development, as Seth Rogen and the Lonely Island have had a couple of busy years acting in, writing and producing for various TV shows and films. While Seth Rogen has kept himself busy starring in projects such as Like Father, Long Shotand co-developing the AMC series Preacher, the Lonely Island has been busy producing the film Brigsby Bear, the Hulu series PEN15, and continuing to perform as a musical act.

While no title or plot is currently known, Taccone said he sees the festival disaster film developing similarly to the 2016 Lonely Island-starred film, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, which poked fun at documentaries of popular bands - or "popumentar[ies]", as Andy Samberg coined it when talking to Entertainment Weekly. Taccone also shared that he's seen Netflix's Fyre documentary three times, but hasn't seen Hulu's Fyre Fraud yet.

Seth Rogen also tweeted himself that the Fyre Festival-like film is still happening, reminding us to not forget about it on January 22.

The untitled festival disaster film will not be Seth Rogen and the Lonely Island's first collaboration, as they've worked previously on the films The Watch and Neighbors as well as Seth Rogen appeared in the Lonely Island's music video "Like A Boss" (as a boss, any less!)

But until the Fyre Festival-like parody film arrives, remember we have Long Shot, starring Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron, hitting theaters starting May 3 and the Lonely Island's upcoming first-ever live summer tour. That's a big hug we'll accept!

Sincerely from Dora Goto (...like a boss!)

Four Days After "The Addams Family" Hit Theaters, A Sequel Has Already Been Confirmed

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures Hear that? It's the sound of my mind being blown...or that of me snapping along to the Addams Family theme song. In just its opening weekend, The Addams Family has earned $30.3 million from its theatrical releases in the United States and Canada (a little bit more than three-quarters of its $40 million budget), surpassing box office predictions and showing that millions of moviegoers are still interested in catching up with what Gomez Addams and his family are doing once again. In doing so,  The Addams Family also became the second highest grossing film in the domestic box office this weekend, following Joker which earned $55.9 million. While it...

Live-Action "Aladdin" Sequel MAY Be in The Works, Producer Dan Lin Confirms

Disney It looks like we might be returning to Aladdin's world - or rather, a whole new world. Following the global commercial success of this year's live-action  Aladdin , including flying past the $1 billion dollar mark in the global box office (no magic carpet needed), it appears that a sequel of the live-action adaptation is a possibility and, according to producer Dan Lin, is already in early talks. "We'd love to," Lin told SYFY WIRE , "People clearly loved the movie and watched it multiple times and we get lots of fan letters and people asking us to make Return [of] Jafar ." While Lin shared that they are still in the early stages of discussion, "we're certainly talking about another movie." One of the important conditions in making the potential Aladdin sequel would be for Ritchie to return and direct it. That's "the hope", Lin continued . "[Ritchie] made [ Aladdin ] for his kids. They loved Aladdin , b...

"Friends" May Be There For You At a Movie Theater Near You

Photograph by David Bjerke - NBCU Photo Bank via Getty Images Calling Friends  fans everywhere (so I picked up the phone!) Friends , the American sitcom that you probably know and know the words to its theme song even if you have never watched it, first premiered on September 22, 1994 and ran until 2004, and will soon mark its 25th anniversary. In honor of the 25th anniversary of the New York City-set sitcom, which has already seen and inspired the release of limited time Pottery Barn, LEGO, and Ralph Lauren collections (among countless fan fictions, of course), you may soon be able to catch your TV friends from Friends soon on theaters - now THAT'S a reason for Ross, Phoebe and Rachel to be screaming and jumping up and down about (besides trying to distract Ross from the fact that Monica and Chandler are in a relationship!) Select Friends episodes will be screened at movie theaters on three separate select dates starting September 23, including featuring exclusive interv...
