Brie Larson Shares That Being Part of "13 Going on 30" Is What Inspired Her To Purse Film Directing

Inspiration can come from anywhere, and a stimulating environment that can certainly help blossom an interest in film-making can oftentimes be being part of a film set.

Which is exactly what happened to Brie Larson when she was shooting the film 13 Going on 30, and Larson was around 13 years-old herself.

On April 22, while at the red carpet for the Los Angeles premiere of Avengers: Endgame, Larson stopped to talk with Entertainment Tonight and shared the defining moment of wanting to direct, and that was being part of the 2004 film 13 Going on 30, which starred Jennifer Garner and in which Larson played one of the Six Chicks, the popular clique of mean girls that ruled middle school.

As Larson shared, being part of 13 Going on 30 was "the moment when I realized that I really wanted to direct."

"I remember paying a lot of attention to where the camera was and the camera moves, thinking about how I would have cut it together and then seeing the movie and seeing how it differed from what I thought."

And Larson definitely learned well, as she went on to make her two short films Weighting and The Arm, which she both co-directed and co-wrote and the latter even earned her a special jury prize at the Sundance Film Festival in 2012.

Larson also recently made her solo and feature film directorial debut with Unicorn Store, which premiered at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival and was released on April 5 in Netflix, and Larson produced and starred in with a talented cast that includes Joan Cusack, Bradley Whitford, Karan Son, and her Captain Marvel co-star Samuel L. Jackson (no Goose included!)

So I guess I have yet another reason to love 13 Going on 30 dearly: it inspired Brie Larson to want to become a film director, for which I am grateful.

Sincerely, Dora Goto, an enthusiast of female filmmaker stories

Four Days After "The Addams Family" Hit Theaters, A Sequel Has Already Been Confirmed

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures Hear that? It's the sound of my mind being blown...or that of me snapping along to the Addams Family theme song. Following the commercial success of this year's animated re-imagining of one of our favorite unconventional families,  The Addams Family , which was released on theaters October 11, Deadline  exclusively confirmed on Tuesday that an animated kooky and spooky sequel is already in the works. In just its opening weekend, The Addams Family has earned $30.3 million from its theatrical releases in the United States and Canada (a little bit more than three-quarters of its $40 million budget), surpassing box office predictions and showing that millions of moviegoers are still interested in catching up with what Gomez Addams and his family are doing once again. In doing so,  The Addams Family also became the second highest grossing film in the domestic box office this weekend, following Joker which earned $55.9 million. While it...

Live-Action "Aladdin" Sequel MAY Be in The Works, Producer Dan Lin Confirms

Disney It looks like we might be returning to Aladdin's world - or rather, a whole new world. Following the global commercial success of this year's live-action  Aladdin , including flying past the $1 billion dollar mark in the global box office (no magic carpet needed), it appears that a sequel of the live-action adaptation is a possibility and, according to producer Dan Lin, is already in early talks. "We'd love to," Lin told SYFY WIRE , "People clearly loved the movie and watched it multiple times and we get lots of fan letters and people asking us to make Return [of] Jafar ." While Lin shared that they are still in the early stages of discussion, "we're certainly talking about another movie." One of the important conditions in making the potential Aladdin sequel would be for Ritchie to return and direct it. That's "the hope", Lin continued . "[Ritchie] made [ Aladdin ] for his kids. They loved Aladdin , b...

Photograph by David Bjerke - NBCU Photo Bank via Getty Images Calling Friends  fans everywhere (so I picked up the phone!) Friends , the American sitcom that you probably know and know the words to its theme song even if you have never watched it, first premiered on September 22, 1994 and ran until 2004, and will soon mark its 25th anniversary. In honor of the 25th anniversary of the New York City-set sitcom, which has already seen and inspired the release of limited time Pottery Barn, LEGO, and Ralph Lauren collections (among countless fan fictions, of course), you may soon be able to catch your TV friends from Friends soon on theaters - now THAT'S a reason for Ross, Phoebe and Rachel to be screaming and jumping up and down about (besides trying to distract Ross from the fact that Monica and Chandler are in a relationship!) Select Friends episodes will be screened at movie theaters on three separate select dates starting September 23, including featuring exclusive interv...
