Grammy-nominated singer Camila Cabello will be making her film acting debut in a modern adaptation of the classic tale of Cinderella. While multiple Cinderella film adaptations have been made - including an upcoming adaptation titled A Cinderella Story: Christmas Wish starring Laura Marano and expected to drop in December - this upcoming Cabello led film will be from Sony Pictures and based on an original idea from comedian and television host James Corden, who will also be producing the film with his partner Leo Pearlman from Fulwell 73.
Not only will Cabello star in the film as *squeaks* a Latina Cinderella, but the Never Be The Same singer will also be "integrally involved in the music for the film", as exclusively reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
The film will be written and directed by Kay Cannon, who's no stranger to doing amazing work with female-led casts in films and TV shows, including writing the Pitch Perfect films, being a writer for New Girl and 30 Rock (which earned her three Emmy nominations), and her 2018 film and directorial debut Blockers.

Although currently no details are known about the exact plot of the film (will the evil stepmother have a cat? This cat lady needs to know!), Cannon's untitled Cinderella film will be a modern re-imagining of the classic princess film centered around and driven by music. Sony has already put production of the film on the fast track.
Cabello's starring in this Cinderella remake will not only be special because it will be her film acting debut and it will star a Latina princess, but Cabello had previously written an unreleased song titled "Cinderella"...if it's any more proof that fairy tale dreams can come true.
While I'm generally skeptical about classic films getting remakes, I am genuinely excited for Kay Cannon's second film starring Camila Cabello, and what new take they can bring on the classic tale - whether through Cannon's fresh writing style or Cabello's contribution as a performer.
Are there any other upcoming films directed by female filmmakers that you're currently excited for and looking forward to watch? Do share, because that's caring!
Sincerely, Dora Goto :)
